Tumescent Liposuction
Dr. Smith introduced Liposuction into her practice in 2005. She does exclusively Tumescent Liposuction – in the office with the patient awake but comfortable. She believes that Tumescent Liposuction is the safest form of liposuction and there are definite advantages to having the procedure done with the patient awake. First of all, it eliminates the risk of general anesthesia. Secondly, it allows the patient to aid in changing positions as needed in order to get the best result. Thirdly, it decreases the possibility of the cannulas going too deeply and damaging any internal organs. The area to be treated is infused with a fluid which numbs the area and decreases bleeding and bruising. The fat is then removed using small cannulas until the desired result is obtained. Recently Dr. Smith has begun incorporating the new VASER Lipo technique. After the fluid is infused, small ultrasonic probes are used to liquefy the fat while preserving the other supporting structures. This makes the fat easier to suck out and promotes good skin retraction during the healing process. For more information on VASER Lipo, please click here.
